Services Provided

The emphasis of the Families Now continuum of services is on time-limited, intensive, home-based, family focused, individualized services with families at imminent of high risk of dissolution.  Two essential components of the service delivery are:

  • a non-deficit approach to working with families; and
  • identifying and developing the innate strengths that all families possess

All other services, interventions, assistance, and approaches are secondary to the acceptance of this initial belief and concept of service delivery on the part of all staff involved in this program.

Families Now Teams will provide the same services to all families, regardless of where they fall in the family preservation services continuum.  The distinction between levels is in the level of intensity and duration of service, not in types of service provided.  Services can be provided directly by the Team, accessed through referral to other agencies or purchased with flex funds.  They may include, but are not limited to:

  • parenting education
  • psychiatric/psychological evaluation, testing and treatment
  • individual/marital/family/group therapy
  • drug/alcohol rehabilitation services
  • vocational training and/or employment counseling
  • clinical consultation for staff
  • therapeutic family recreation
  • assistance in developing a support network
  • assistance in locating and obtaining housing
  • transportation reimbursement for family visits, treatment, or to enable employment
  • special education services, e.g., tutoring, GED classes and tuition, standardized test preparation fees
  • personal care items, e.g., clothing, personal hygiene items
  • day care services
  • security deposits and rental assistance on housing
  • special learning aids, e.g., flash cards, books, computers, other educational equipment, auxiliary aids (e.g., TTY, TDD)
  • respite care
  • automobile operating or maintenance cost to enable employment, treatment or family visitation
  • essential household items, furniture and appliances, e.g., beds, stoves, tables, chairs, refrigerator, sheets
  • essential household supplies, e.g., brooms, cleaning supplies
  • employment tools/equipment, uniforms and footwear
